Route 66 Christmas Chute – Best Christmas Lights in Oklahoma

Like many, Christmas is my favorite time of the year. The decorations, food, and family time just make me happy. Now, I don’t necessarily love the freezing temps, but all the pretty lights make up for it. Today, I am going to share with you one of the most magical setups of Christmas Lights in Oklahoma.

The Route 66 Christmas Chute

Located on historic Route 66 in downtown Sapulpa, OK (just outside of Tulsa) this winter wonderland is set up to engulf you in the holiday spirit. The street is lined with awnings that are covered in Christmas ornaments, lights, and other decorations. Each section is a different theme. Picture the different themes in each aisle at Hobby Lobby but hanging above you. They also expand beyond just Christmas themes. As you can see below, this is a cupcake theme. There’s also a red, white, and blue section, a candy land section and so much more!

You will be in awe of what you see – my words cannot do it justice, truly. But I’ll try, so keep reading 😉

They had 10 different themes of decorations and lights last year (the inaugural year of this event), and they promise to make the event bigger and better in 2023.

Downtown Sapulpa Businesses

Along with the Christmas lights and decor, the small businesses along this stretch of historic Route 66 in Downtown Sapulpa, OK cannot be missed! The local businesses in Sapulpa participate in their own way, with giveaways, special deals, games, and hot chocolate.

This is actually the perfect time to visit these local shops in Sapulpa. You can truly get into the Christmas Spirit with the joyous decorations guiding you into these unique stores where you can go Christmas shopping for your loved ones!

There is a wide variety of retail businesses in the area, including antique stores, boutiques, candy shops, and thrift stores. You can also grab a bite or a drink at one of the many restaurants in the area.

As a huge advocate for supporting local businesses, I really encourage you to check out and support the local spots in the area this holiday season. Many of them are working tirelessly to keep their businesses running after what has been a slow year for most small businesses.

The local businesses of Sapulpa can actually be thanked for this entire event. The idea started with a group of business owners who wanted to make something special in their hometown. Thus, the Christmas Chute was born. So be sure to stop in and support their small businesses!

Christmas Chute Events

Not only are the Christmas lights in Sapulpa amazing, but there are also events going on throughout the entire season. Santa checks on the place periodically, of course. They have live music, pop-up vendors, games like corn hole and ring toss, face painting, food trucks, and so much more.

Last year, they created The Okie Igloo Village, which is a paid experience, but you get access to a cute inflatable igloo filled with nice seating and games (and a reprieve from the cold).

It’s also a great opportunity to grab the family and get great photos using the stunning decorations as a backdrop.

When is the Christmas Chute Open?

The Christmas Chute opens on November 16, 2023, and you’ll be able to see the magic every day until the end of the year.

Obviously, going after dark will give you the best lighting experience, but be sure to stop by during the day while most businesses are open (though a lot of the businesses down there have extended hours during the holidays for this event).

Get Involved

This event is 100% volunteer-run. So if you love Christmas, have a knack for decorating or organization, or want to get a volunteer group together, there are so many possibilities to help make this event keep going year after year.

To keep this event going strong each year, visit the Chute, spread the word, and if you can, volunteer!
